I must say, this did surprise me
Never thought I would see that day that Jay Electronica would endorse any corporate brand. This is undoubtly something that was set up by his affiliation with Roc Nation.....The clip was filmed in Electronica's native New Orleans and the folks at PepsiCo filmed this in a way that didn't compromise Jay's eclectic persona. It's good to see major brands showing some artistic diversity in their marketing.

Bobby V - Words directed by G.Visuals
Director G.Visuals brings to life what is arguably Bobby Valentino's best song to date. The treatment, an updated take on the classic "Hello" by Lionel Richie, takes Bobby V out of his normal zone of bump and grind and presents him with the task of flexing his acting chops to show more heartfelt emotions. Bobby V's love interest is a ballerina who by the way, possesses an organic beauty not normally found in mainstream music videos, but was perfect for the message Bobby V and Visuals where looking to give. She catches his eye during an audition and it is not until later he realizes that she is actually blind. It's clear after watching this video that G.Visuals strength as a director is using the camera to tell a story. He succeeds in this with great casting, stunning shots, subtle cut aways and great art direction. In the chorus Valentino sings, "Words don't mean that much to me" so Visuals took note and let the lens speak....

Donny Hathaway "Jealous Guy"
I've come to grips that some spirits are just too much for this world. Donny was one of those spirits. Till this day, his level of genius is still unmatched. My children will know who he is....

Banksy does "The Simpson's"
After 20 years "The Simpson's" have been able to remain relevant. They've done this by pushing the envelope. Recently they where able to commission the elusive street artist "Banksy" to do their intro. Banksy, being the provacateur that he is, took this opportunity to take a jab a mass media, FOX network to be exact. I'm very surprised that the big wigs at FOX signed off on this intro. I'm almost positive that what we saw is a toned down version of the original. Hopefully the original will see the light of day.

Kanye West - Runaway (Artwork)
Kanye West just released the artwork for the single "Runaway" from his upcoming yet untitled album. Since his performance at the 2010 VMA's West has continued to incorporate ballerinas in his work. This artwork is just another reason why I consider Kanye as one of the most creative minds in entertainment.
Not only is she smart, creative and hot. She has her own Jordan!!!! How sick is that?!?!?
Va$htie is continuing in her quest to take over the world of design and entertainment with launching her design for the Air Jordan II. This is groundbreaking in the fact that she is the first female to get the opportunity to give her take on the iconic shoe.

Ol' Dirty
There is something insanely genious about being unique in a world where everything has been tried at least once. Many may pawn it off as just being "weird". It takes a lot of courage to follow your own path and create your own lane but being happy with yourself is essential to true happiness. Dirt Dog was indeed a true individual and I think we all can learn a little from him.
Stuart Haygarth is well known for his masterful repurposing of detritus, and for his installation at the V&A has transformed a banal staircase into an explosion of color using over 600 meters of cut-off pieces from picture frames supplied by bespoke framer

I'm Back!!!!
To all of my followers, I would like to apologize about the break. Having a baby definitely changes your priorities. However, after celebrating her 1st year on this earth I've had a creative burst and need to get it out to the world. Stay tuned and thank you for entertaining my randomness!!!

The Roots feat. John Legend - "The Fire"
Directed by Rik Codero, this post apocolyptic WWII piece is far from your run of the mill hip hop video. I actually had to watch the video more than once to get a grasp of the message Codero was attempting to convey. This ambitious piece definitely shows off Codero's directing skills but in my humble opinion really does nothing for the song. It's obvious Codero has his eyes set on the big screen and took this opportunity to show off his movie making ability. Hopefully when his big screen ambitions come to fruition...and they will, he will make it up to The Roots for using their single to advertise himself.

Happy Birthday Miles
"Kind of Blue" was my introduction to real Jazz music. That album changed the way I listened to music and will forever be, in my opinion, the greatest Jazz album ever recorded. If you have never had the privilege of listening to this album, do yourself a great service and go pick it up today, take it home, cook yourself a good meal, pour yourself a glass of the best wine you can afford, tune out all of your distractions and let this album sink into your soul. You will thank me for this later....

Canon 7D x Vincent Laforet
This camera has revolutionized film!
Photographer and now videographer, Vincent Laforet, has been taking videography to new limits with the works he has created with the Canon Mark II 5D and Canon 7D. He recently collaborated with Canon in a contest that pushes photographers to become videographers in “The Story Beyond the Still”. While a few scenes in his personal reel, featured above, were shot with a Red One, most of it was shot with a Canon 7D, including the helicopter scenes.

Lena Horne June 30, 1917 - May 09, 2010
There is so much you can say about Lena Horne. She was a true pioneer who abided by no boundaries. She was an amazing talent whose contribution to the entertainment industry and society will be sorely missed.
“My identity is very clear to me now. I am a black woman. I’m free. I no longer have to be a ‘credit.’ I don’t have to be a symbol to anybody; I don’t have to be a first to anybody. I don’t have to be an imitation of a white woman that Hollywood sort of hoped I’d become. I’m me, and I’m like nobody else.” -Lena Horne

IT'S THE ROC?!?!?!? ( I told you)
For all of you who have followed my blog you may remember one of my first entries being about none other than Dame Dash. I told you I had a feeling that 2010 was going to be a big year for him and he would make a come back. Well he is back and has made a major move. For some reason he has always struck me as someone you can't count out. It's funny how things work out. Check out the news below....

Cody Chestnutt - "Come Back Like Spring"
Cody is a musical genius and he proves it over and over again. We will never understand why he chooses live his life in seclusion dropping gems like this sparadically once every year or so....maybe it's his way of putting his all in every song and cultivating it like an organic garden so that it is pure and untainted. Even after being sought after by some of the biggest music labels in the industry he has refused to compromise the integrity of his music for fame and fortune. Eventhough I along with many others long for another full length project from him, I can honestly say that I'm just as satisfied with one Cody Chestnutt song as I would be with a lot of artists entire catalogue....
A skill I wish to one day master
There is definitely an art to effectively using space in your home. This pic from architectural designers Louis Molina and Laurent Turin's "Echo House" is a media junky's heaven. The sliding door actually dubs as a projection screen for an HD projector. I long for a basement of this magnitude one day...

M.I.A. "Born Free" (Video) dir. Romain Gavras
M.I.A, Born Free from ROMAIN-GAVRAS on Vimeo.
M.I.A. was quoted earlier referring to Lady Gaga as somebody whose music doesn't reflect her "envelope pushing" style. She compared Gaga's work to basically the rest of the "pop" music that holds the radio airwaves hostage. This song and video gives us a glimpse of what "pushing the envelope" really should be.

Black Eyed Peas (Pre-Fergie)
Most won't remember Black Eyed Peas pre 'Elephunk', the album that introduced Fergie as a new member of the group. That in my eyes is a crime. Behind the Front was Black Eyed Peas debut album. It is arguably one of the greatest hip-hop debut albums from a group. Driven by production from Wil-I-am, this album broke stereotypes of what West Coast hip hop was all about . It was hip hop at it's purest and transcended coasts at a time when tentions between east and west had reached a boiling point. It's because of this album I've given Black Eyed Peas a lifetime pass for crossing over. Do yourself a favor and check this album out, you will be pleasantly surprised and your ears will be forever grateful.

KORG iELECTRIBE App for IPAD
Many have argued that iPad is just a bigger version of the iPod Touch, but all cynical techies aside, the iPad continues to blaze its way through the market with rather surprising results. And while some might wonder, so what if the screen is bigger than the iPod Touch, here is an app that will prove that bigger is indeed better. For the beat buffs with a need to create all the way, all the time, KORG has turned its popular ELECTRIBE-R into an iPad application. While the ELECTRIBE-R has served dance musicians and beat masters for the past ten decades, the renewed version for the iPad will continue to meet all beat making needs with the virtual analog beatbox. The faithful replica will allow one to use a real keyboard and interface to name and manage resets. Of course, the larger screen size of the iPad will ensure that no one will have to feel like they have fat fingers again. The KORG iELECTRIBE is now available for download via iTunes.

Banksy Exit Through the Gift Shop Extended Sneak Peek
Exit Through the Gift Shop, the first film by renowned graffiti artist Banksy, became the hottest ticket at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival where it made its world debut. Banksy is a graffiti artist with a global reputation whose work can be seen on walls from post—hurricane New Orleans to the separation barrier on the Palestinian West Bank. Fiercely guarding his anonymity to avoid prosecution, Banksy has so far resisted all attempts to be captured on film. Exit Through the Gift Shop tells the incredible true story of how an eccentric French shop keeper turned documentary maker attempted to locate and befriend Banksy, only to have the artist turn the camera back on its owner with spectacular results. The film contains exclusive footage of Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Invader and many of the worlds most infamous graffiti artists at work, on walls and in interview. As Banksy describes it, Its basically the story of how one man set out to film the un—filmable. And failed

Kelis - Acappella
Visually this video hits the spot. Personally I've never been a big fan of electronica/dance music, but I think Kelis is the perfect artist to experiment with this genre. The song itself is cool. Being a new parent myself I can associate with how life changing having your first child can be. That being said, this is a great ode to her baby.....

Why couldn't I have thought of this???
Billund, Denmark, could easily be considered the prefab capital of the world: Each year, its factories pump out more than 19 billion modules, which are sent around the world and pieced together by more than 400 million people. Billund is, after all, the home of Lego, one of the most intensely used building blocks on Earth. The company’s 2,350 different pieces and 52 colors form a nearly infinite number of combinations—–and for as many purposes, from creating a land of shipwrecked pirates to assembling an actual kitchen island in a Paris apartment. The idea for Simon Pillard and Philippe Rossetti’s Lego kitchen sprouted five years ago, when Pillard put 500 blocks and a day’s worth of work into building a Lego-legged chair. The designing duo—–who create products together under the name Munchausen—–recently gave the seat a colorful companion. They covered their kitchen island—–a simple wooden block—–with 20,000 Lego pieces.

Congrats to Diggy Simmons!!!!
Congrats to Diggy Simmons for inking a deal with Atlantic records. This kid created a movement all by himself and didn't rely on his pops Rev. Run or Uncle Russell. He gets props for that. I expect some really big things from this kid.
